Adam went to Haiti in the weeks following the 2010 Haitian earthquake. For Adam, it was extremely important to use his skills to help the Haitian people rebuild what they had lost. For many Haitians, amputations are a source of shame and amputees are largely not included in society. The devastating effects of the earthquake quickly brought more people into this life. Adam got together with Project Medishare, a University of Miami charity group, to help build a rapid response prosthetic clinic in Port-Au-Prince, the epicenter of the earthquake.

Within months, Haitian amptuees were fit with prosthetic legs and arms and reintegrated into the Haitian culture. Their perseverance is evident in the photo above, where an amputee raced with the fastest child in the town and won, proving that amputees are just as capable as everyone else. And sometimes, can exceed even their own expectations.

In 2014, Adam was featured in a documentary film “Unbreakable: A Story of Hope and Healing in Haiti“. The film was screened at the DocMiami International Film Festival and at the NYC Independent Film Festival. A trailer can be seen below.

Adam’s work, and the work of Project Medishare in Haiti, was recognized by the Vatican in 2015. They were invited to meet Pope Francis in a special ceremony in Rome.
